What is the McTimoney method of animal therapy?
McTimoney is a highly specialised chiropractic* style technique used to treat musculoskeletal problems in humans and animals. The McTimoney Animal method is a holistic, non-invasive approach that helps to restore balance in an animal’s musculoskeletal system. John McTimoney developed the McTimoney method of chiropractic treatment in the 1950s. In 1954, McTimoney further adapted his method to the analysis and treatment specifically for animals, and is believed to have been the first practitioner to do so.
What animals benefit from McTimoney treatments?
A number of animals can benefit from treatment from this gentle form of chiropractic*, but especially performance and companion animals. Most commonly, dogs and horses regularly benefit from treatments administered by a trained McTimoney Practitioner.
Will the McTimoney method hurt my horse or dog?
McTimoney is a gentle chiropractic* style technique that horses and dogs happily accept. The McTimoney technique is one in which the practitioner applies with a gentle, sensitive touch to feel for misalignments in the skeleton, with special attention to the pelvis and spine. Once detected, the practitioner will administer a series of gentle and quick movements unique to the McTimoney method to realign the bones. This realignment helps to improve range of motion, restoring balance to the animal’s body, which in turn, improves health, soundness and performance.
Does my horse or dog need to be injured to receive McTimoney treatments?
McTimoney chiropractic* style techniques are not just for injured animals. Treatment can be continued after the injury is resolved — at longer intervals — to maintain health and balance, and are a bonus for animals without injuries to maintain and support healthy balance. In addition, animals in therapy receiving other types of injury care can get a boost from regular McTimoney Animal treatments. Aged or infirm horses and dogs can also benefit from McTimoney Animal treatment.
